Best Cendol in KL

Written by Updated ago

Although today’s generation of youth culture may have been exposed to more fanciful offerings of desserts such as frozen yogurt, gelato, soft serve and whatnot, there’s always a place in the heart for a good old-fashioned local dessert. One such example is our local favourite cendol — the familiar sweet sensation consists of finely-shaved ice loaded with thick Gula Melaka syrup, coconut milk, red beans and of course… the soft and chewy texture of green cendol strands.

Sangkaya is known for its coconut ice cream, one that has made a name throughout Klang Valley and possibly at other states as well. Now, they have returned with a brand new creation - their very own durian cendol. As you'll expect, this is no ordinary bowl of dessert. A whole piece of D24 durian is placed right above beautifully shaved ice, 3 scoops of their signature coconut ice cream, grass jelly, cendol jelly, corn, kidney beans and most importantly, Gula Melaka. The concoction of sweets is absolutely amazing, and one bowl is certainly not enough. However, pricing at RM13.50 per bowl will stop you from having more.

If you miss kampung-style food and desserts, this is the place for you. Located in Tengkat Tong Shin, this Vcitorian-aged restoran offers quite a stunning array of food and desserts as well. Their cendol may be smaller in size as compared to the norm but the flavors in return packs quite a punch. After all, the aromatic palm sugar syrup and soft green strands of cendol tastes mind-blowingly addictive, after the additional red bean topping. However, it's best to order two bowls if you really want to satisfy your cravings.

Tucked on the ground floor of Brem Mall, this bright-green restaurant has been churning out one of the finest cendols in town. For more than three generations, they have been making their own Pandan Grass Jellies, which is soft and ethereal. The brimming bowl of dessert comes with a glacier of ice shavings submerged in fresh coconut milk and gula Melaka, a scoop of red beans, swirls of green jellies and slab of gooey pulut. Slither your spoon through, which permeates the sweetness of gula Melaka throughout the bowl. It’s a pleasant marriage of sweetness and texture at each bite, you would chug down the whole bowl at a blink. Moreover, they have widespread flavour profiles to further elevate your slurping joy – Nate De Coco, Durian and Sweet Ginger. People of Kuala Lumpur now know the best way not letting a blistering hot day go wasted.
