If there's any reason for you to come here, is for their sang har mee. Swimming in creamy gravy are several luxurious chunks of freshwater prawns cooked to tender perfection. The noodles here are also submerged in the gravy, making it a lot softer than most. So for those who are too lazy to chew, this is great news! Lovely flavour, fresh and undeniably delicious, the only question is: Are you willing to pay for it?

Restoran Soo Kee in Jalan Ampang has been around for a bloody long time, specialising in two very exquisite dishes - roasted pork and sang har mee. Over the years, many have tried to take the throne away from them and many have failed as well. Regardless, their sang har mee is definitely one to die for. It's incredibly rich in flavour and the essence of the sea can be tasted throughout the gravy. The freshwater prawns are also huge, plump and juicy, adding on the pleasure of dining here.

Restoran New Imbi Garden has been popular for 2 things, and 2 things only - beef noodles and sang har mee. Both of this  has similar principles but unique in its own way. After all, the owner is the son of the famed Restoran Soo Kee in Jalan Ampang. As for the sang har mee, it's drenched in a thick and creamy gravy, topped with 4-5 pieces of humongous freshwater prawns and a handful of fresh vegetables. Delicious!

    Restaurant Kow Siew

Presentation may not be a key suite from Restoran Kow Siew, but man, they do know how to cook up a good plate of sang har mee. It's sloppy and messy, but also generous with their portioning of the freshwater prawns. The noodles are nicely soaked in gravy as well, allowing it to absorb all the flavour and retain incredibly soft. Good flavour, horrible plating and definitely worth the money.

Keong Kee Sang Har Mee has been named as one of the best places to have sang har mee (and apparently braised beef noodles as well). The two most important element, freshwater prawns and gravy, are absolutely delightful. It's well packed with flavour, slightly salty and filled with eggy goodness while the freshness of the freshwater prawns really comes though. It's plump, juicy and definitely enjoyable.

Murkier, denser and a lot eggier than most, Restoran Sang Kee's sang har mee has a great depth of flavour from the gravy itself. The freshwater prawn is also pretty great as the flesh is both bouncy and plump. In short, it has great flavour, lovely texture from the noodles and is fairly affordable. If you're a fan of this dish, definitely go for it.
