Coming from the same clan and possessing the same gastronomy and marination method, Sun May Hiong Satay House is always fully occupied, be it with locals or even backpackers. Ming Sate Hut has always been the longest lunch pit stop for foodies from neighbouring states and travellers visiting Melaka. Located a few doors away from Nadeje cake shop famous for their mille crepes, Ming Sate Hut’s pork satay is just as good. Their all-time best-selling pig’s intestines here are invariably selling like hot cakes and running out of stock. A delicate mouthful of well-marinated satay, moist on the inside with charred brittle edges on the sides; we only wished this delicacy came in larger portions. If pork is not to your taste, fret not - chicken satay is also served here. The piquant aroma of the pineapple-bilimbi dipping sauce is palatable, and leaves a tingling sensation with every bite. Do request for chilli extract to spice up your satay-chomping experience.

Dating back to 1961, this satay house is a family business that has been passed down for many generations, giving the shop name “Xiang Ji” commemorating their grandfather’s name, the founder of this satay house after its relocation. Prominently known as “Jonker Satay”, this shop serves pork satay and offal satay such as pork intestine and liver too. This commendable satay house has proven that Melaka is not only famous for its “satay celup”. Well-marinated, juicy with a crisp around the edges and chewy at the centre, the pork satay is served with the typical pairing of cucumber chunks and onion wedges, “nasi impit”, and a mellow peanut-pineapple dipping sauce.

For the more adventurous, offal satay is available here. It may look and sound unappetising, but the strong seasonings and turmeric powder turn these unpalatable pieces into a sensational skewer noted for its crisp edges.
