Grilled fish is a typical Portuguese dish and is very popular in Melaka. They are also known as "ikan bakar / ikan panggang" to most Melakans. It is a common norm to use sting ray fish for this dish and it tastes even better when wrapped with banana leaves or grilled in a foil wrap (ala-Portugeuse-style). You can try this dish in either seafood restaurants or Malay warongs in Melaka.

J & J, Portuguese Settlement
Another famous stall is J & J Seafood Corner, which is located at the very end of the row of stalls in Portuguese Settlement. They are actually more notable for their mango drinks but the seafood prepared by them are as good as their drinks, too. The grilled fish is cooked in an aluminium foil and upon opening the foil, you would be greeted with a fragrant grilled fish, infused with a thick red chili sauce. A good plus point to note is that their fish is really tender, so it was very easy to eat.More info
