Best Grilled Fish (Ikan Bakar) in Melaka

Written by Updated ago

Grilled fish is a typical Portuguese dish and is very popular in Melaka. They are also known as "ikan bakar / ikan panggang" to most Melakans. It is a common norm to use sting ray fish for this dish and it tastes even better when wrapped with banana leaves or grilled in a foil wrap (ala-Portugeuse-style). You can try this dish in either seafood restaurants or Malay warongs in Melaka.

The restaurant is located right beside the fishing jetty, so you can expect fresh fish on your plate. The queue here is long at almost every point of dining. You have to queue to enter, queue for the selection of seafood and also queue for your seats if the restaurant is full-house. But fret not, because its worth the wait. Luckily, the food is served quite fast once you are seated. Their signature grilled fish is the Bakar Bercili (which basically means Grilled Chilli) and to our surprise it is more sweet and sour instead of spicy.
    Tips

It is almost (always) packed, hence you need to be here early for dinner.
