Best Asam Laksa in Subang Jaya

Written by Updated ago

Asam laksa simply needs no introduction in our country. It’s a beloved local dish that has travelled across the world and has never failed to garner a sheer amount of fame to Malaysian cuisine. For the uninitiated, the broth is made from shredded mackerel fish and tamarind juice that yields a melee of spicy, sour, sweet and savoury flavours in each mouthful. It’s ladled over a bed of silky-smooth noodles and then further punched up with sprinklings of onions, chillies, cucumbers and pineapples. The best part is diners commonly don’t have to shell out more than RM10 for a good bowl of asam laksa. Penang is widely hailed as the best spot to savour a scrumptious bowl of asam laksa, yet we have curated a list of reliable contenders in Subang Jaya that does not pale in comparison.

Rankings of all participants as visible on our listings are solely voted by you, our beloved readers. With that said, we would encourage you to please vote for your preferred participants in order to ensure their rightful positions ranking-wise on our portal. Thank you!

    Restoran Tien Tien Fatt

This modest eatery is widely regarded for its Penang pork noodles yet that does not mean their asam laksa should be pushed aside. Worth the gravy-flinging wrestle, the flavoursome bowl is generously portioned with rudimentary ingredients that do nothing but charm your taste buds with a wonderful burst of sweet, sour and savoury tangs. The mackerel and tamarind-infused broth is the key here, just like any good laksa should be. Not skimping in portion, one need not seek for the big bowl unless you’re really in the mood to bloat up your tummy. For additional tap of heat, opt for extra chillies to be sprinkled over the heap of noodles.

If you ever hanker for a side dish, do try their popiah

It’s hardly a surprise why this spacious food court is well patronised by the locals for both lunch and dinner hours as extensive selections of hawker-style food are up for grabs. Among the best sellers is the asam laksa which is served piping hot and filled generously with slithering noodles, murky broth that packs a punch and a bouquet of sliced cucumbers, pineapples, chillies and herbs. Aside from the sour and spicy flavours, the employment of prawn paste offers a sweet aftertaste. If you’re not a fan of sweetness, opt for the dark sauce to be excluded.

    Uncle Chong Penang Asam Laksa

Uncle Chong Penang Asam Laksa is another reliable contender in the asam laksa scene. Nothing to write home about the ambience as brimful bowls are churned out from an unassuming food truck but the flavours are downright delicious, which matter most, always. Adequately portioned, the bowl comprises silky-smooth noodles and piquant gravy while the smattering of julienned cucumbers, pineapple chunks and refreshing herbs round off a subtle spectrum of flavour and texture. Hobnob with fellow laksa lovers or crack up some conversation with the amiable stall owner while chugging your bowl clean.

This well-known restaurant has raised the eyebrows of asam laksa devotees in the surrounding vicinity. Taking the delectable dish to a whole new level, here one can relish a plate of fried asam laksa. The chewy noodles are flash-fried with their special laksa sauce, eggs, prawns and beansprouts that mingle along for a layer of crunch. Then the nest of noodles is garnished with cucumber, onions, pineapples and heap of herbs. Apart from the regular medley of sweet, sour and spiciness, your palate will also be greeted with a tone of smokiness from the hot wok. Purists may baulk at the fried version at first, yet upon the first bite, you’re completely sold.

Adhering to the demands of vegetarians and those who are looking to sluice their unhealthy sins away, it’s pretty common to see our local delights veered into the organic way, and asam laksa is surely not missing out. If you’re in Subang Jaya, then this restaurant-cum-supermarket is the place to be. Their asam laksa comprise similar noodles and drenched with a rather mild-bodied broth that is delicious. Then regular consorts like pineapples, cucumbers, chillies and herbs go hand to hand with newcomers like tofu cubes and fried eggplant slivers. Since no prawn paste or fish mixture is employed, the broth is less murky compared to the original rendition.
