Best Sichuan Hot Pot in KL

Written by Updated ago

Hot pots have remained to be an integral part of the Chinese dining cuisine simply because the food is good and simple, perfect even for large gatherings. Sichuan or mala flavoured broths are always a favourite choice, especially for those whose tongues crave only the spiciest. The typical Sichuan style broth is essentially made up of lots and lots of Sichuan peppercorns, heaps of dried chilies and drowned in a thick layer of chili oil. So for all those who desperately need the heat, here’s a list of the recommended Sichuan hot pots in KL.

This hot pot restaurant will transport you to Hong Kong the minute you lay eyes on the décor and hear all the classic Cantopop music your father always whistles to. Their Sichuan Spicy broth is packed with lots of flavours and that ought to be the case, especially with the generous amount of dried chilies swimming around. Just a spoonful of the broth will bring you the authentic taste of Hong Kong. Although it’s mild in heat, the pork bone broth base will curb that annoying itch for too much spice; because it’s just that good.

It’s highly recommended by many with a claim that one would able to sniff the authenticity of Sichuan hot pot just by walking through the restaurant’s front doors. Their Mala soup base is brimming with dried chilies, so much so that everyone around the table won't be able to help but to break out in wahs and huahs. This is definitely not a place to go if you want a quick bite, because what follows after is a hundred more. It’ll be a constant battle between pain and pleasure, but fret not as it’ll end with a satisfied belly and a proud nod of acknowledgement for Lao SiChuan.

    Tips

They serve other Sichuan cuisine that is not hot pot as well

    Things to expect

Ganguo is a variant of hot pot that is drier and more like a sauce-based version of it. Customers are given the freedom to choose their level of heat here as well, but keep in mind that even the 10% heat level is enough to leave some patrons shaking. Friends are sure to dare one another to challenge the 100% spiciness level so who’s up for it? Da Gan Guo serves up generous helpings of juicy meat that comes in big chunks. You won’t hear a complaint here about having too much vegetables and too little meat.

It’s adorably called ‘Little Fat Sheep’, and it’s a hot pot chain from China that has successfully made locals over there swarming for their Sichuan style broth. One can only expect the same over here in Malaysia. If it’s not obvious enough, go for their lamb! Dip it in their peppercorn soup that’s drenched with chili oil and try not to tear up while the fireworks happen in your mouth. Customers swear by this hot pot restaurant when it comes to the Klang Valley area, so hop in your car and get on over!

Dragon Door is fashioned to look like a traditional inn from one of the ancient dynasties. Don’t expect any kung fu fighting here though, because their signature is the charcoal steamboat. This preserves the quality and taste of the food, making it worthy enough to be placed in your mouth. Their Spicy Soup teems with Szechuan spice that leave tongues numb but with an underlying tingling sensation that brings back the thirst for heat. Their slices of meat are imported from New Zealand, Australia and Vietnam, so they’re definitely here to impress!
