When you're feeling under the weather but your sweet tooth aches, the most ideal dish to have that will satisfy that aching craving without deteriorating your health is tong sui! Warm, soothing and 'smooth', a bowl of sweet papaya and white fungus or gingko barley could ease your body and mind into sleep when you're feeling unwell. On the other hand, a cold and refreshing bowl of longan or honeydew sago could cool your body down on a hot day. Penangites, these spots are the ones to keep an eye out for if you're looking for tong sui!

Aunty Anne True Penang Cuisine
Located on the same street at the highly acclaimed Siu Fong Lye Fried Koay Kak and Penang Chee Cheong Fun, Aunty Anne True Penang Cuisine is one of the newer establishments to sit in the refurbished heritage buildings of the street. Despite its young age, the restaurant quickly rose to fame for the authentic Penang Nyonya cuisine it serves. Don't miss out on their bee koh moy, a black glutinous rice dessert porridge or other Nyonya desserts that are available for the day. Dinner is only available by a two day in advance reservation for a minimum of 10pax.

Tong Sui & Beehoon Stall @ Victoria Street
A short walk further down from China House and located in front of the family home, this tong sui stall also sells beehoon. Currently run by a second generation, the sweet soups here are still made traditionally with wood and charcoal fire. Seating is limited but nobody cares. Sit, squat or stand, these tong sui are definitely worth a teenie-weenie discomfort!
