Preferably called the roti kahwin here in Kota Kinabalu, what we know back in the city centre as roti bakar is no difference despite the varying names. One thing's for sure is that the goodness of kaya and butter in between two crunchy toast is to die for. Conventionally found in local coffee shops or kopitiam, places like your neighbourhood mamak tend to carry this delicious snack too.     Kedai Kopi Yuit Cheong

    Yuit Cheong is wide known for their satay, but what comes next is also their roti bakar that absolutely cannot be brushed aside. Every customer will be recommended to at least have a serving on the table or it would not be worth the visit. Side the snack with a cup of coffee and of course their famous satay and your day is basically completed.

    Kedai Kopi Fu Yuan

    Sweet, sweet kaya and butter lacing your taste buds with indulgence and satisfying sensations is one of the reasons the roti bakar is such a favourite. You can find a variation of the conventional toasted version and the lighter and fluffier version of steamed bread. Both comes with the yin yang fillings that is the highlight of the dish.

    Taking a twist from the local kopitiams, the mamaks here boast a good range of roti bakar too. Take Restoran Salim for example- a mamak which roti telurs and roti boms sell more than their roti bakar, but give them toast a try and you’ll definitely be bewitched. Throw in a soft boiled egg or condensed milk to elevate the flavours too.

    With some vouching for the roti bakar here, the need to give it a try does arises. Although more prominently known for their roasted pork and barbequed pork, their roti bakar tends to be a sought after snack here too. Couple that with a cup of hot black coffee- main course, snack, and drink? Sold!
