Uncle Cendol
Certified
halalSandwiched between Secret Recipe and 7-Eleven at Brem Mall is a comfy restaurant that has been receiving epithets such as “The Best Cendol in Town” and “Best Varieties of Cendol”. Besides the soothing thirst quencher, their Malaysian delicacies such as Curry Mee, Nasi Goreng and Rojak are vaunted among patrons too. Their Rojak platter consists of kuih bawang (deep-fried onion fritter), hard-boiled eggs, fried bean curds and kuih kelapa (deep-fried coconut fritter), which is piled with a generous portion of julienned cucumbers and jicamas. The pyramid is then ladled with their homemade sauce, which has a tinge of sweetness and bits of crushed peanuts and finally dusted with sesame seeds. The deep-fried fritters are bouncy and complement treacly sauce while the raw greens add a layer of crunch. The platter usually comes with a separate bowl of similar sauce, where diners can drench the morsels according to their liking. It’s worthy to order another before the last bite.
