Established for almost a decade now, this hidden gem in Subang has long opened it doors in catering to patrons of various backgrounds. Those who are aware of its existence would know that Benjy Cafe is unlike any other generic cafes out there, as they serve delectable comfort food with a smile amid a cosy setting that would remind one of home. One of their special dish comes in the form of a white fish dish, the Batter Fried New Zealand Hoki fish. Essentially utilising sizable fillet of Hoki fish, the fish is dipped into their very own batter recipe infused with beer. Yes, beer. Bathed in scorching oil, the fish fillet emerge golden brown in coloration, and while it is crispy on the outside, the flesh inside is nothing short of succulent, as the fish still retains its bouncy bite, an evidence of the freshness it entails. Perched on top a sauce-base made out anchovies along with potato mash at the bottom of the plate, patrons can taste the savoury brininess of the sea from the overall dish, truly the epitome of seafood goodness. Served with an assortment of healthy greens such as carrots, cauliflower, bell-pepper and snow-peas, garnished with coriander, you will be hard pressed to find another dish like this elsewhere.

The Italian inspired name of the restaurant describes as to dine in the open air. And by this, the outlet is located right in the middle of Jaya Grocer, a grocery store in Empire Shopping Gallery, open to all with no walls or panels. It has an open kitchen where diners can observe busy kitchen staff preparing and cooking their meals and a casual sitting area. The menu consists of hearty Italian and Western cuisines such as steaks, burgers, pastas and pizzas. What’s special here is that you can purchase fresh meat from the grocer and request the restaurant to cook to your desire. They have specific ranges of meat and fish to cater to this service. You may also add on their choice of vegetable and carb side dishes. Moreover, the restaurant offers ready cooked meals in the front display area with an array of colourful salad and vegetable dishes, chicken, lasagna and sandwhiches and last but not least, desserts! Another plus point is, since it’s in the grocer, you can help yourselves to purchase drinks from the beverage aisle to complete your meal.
