Best Porridge in Subang Jaya

Written by Updated ago

Today’s porridge dish seems to have evolved from its infamous predecessor. Back then when we think of porridge, we think of it as staple food for the sick (more like we’re being pressured by our mums to take them). However, today the ingredients and the method of serving have changed and we see people in perfect health indulging in this meal at stalls. There are various taste and forms of porridge, ranging from the standard shredded chicken to something fancy like scallops and crabs. Regardless of which, we can safely say that a bowl of porridge will always be a form of comfort food and sometimes, somewhat a luxury.

The name Uncle Lim somehow stirred up our memories of childhood. As true to its name, here you’ll find authentic Malaysian specials such as Asam Laksa, Curry Laksa, Half-Boiled Egg, and Nasi Lemak. One of these favourites includes Uncle Lim’s porridge of course. Cooked to achieve a thickened consistency, a bowl of this delight would definitely turn out to be a satisfying breakfast meal. And it comes with a generous amount of shredded chicken and Yao Char Kwai too!

Porridge is usually served simply – just pure white rice with plenty of water and some condiments to go it with. However, things aren’t exactly the same at Eat-ZY Teow Chew Porridge. On occasions, more often than not, they serve unique porridge made from different grains and whatnots, sometimes with the addition of tiny sweet potatoes. To compliment these odd concoctions, a wide variety of salty dishes (and we mean really salty ones) are paired with them. Having said it, the flavours surprisingly work and are somewhat interesting to try too. This is a great place to dine in as well!
    Tips

    Try out the braised peanuts!

The pork intestine porridge at Ong Lai certainly keeps it siple and retains its comfort food charm. This bowl of congee has Chinese crullers, mushrooms, ginger, papadam, and spring onions. Though it is bland for the most part, the porridge still has quite a bit of flavour, and a big contributor to this is the addition of spring onions and ginger. What works with this greatly are the pieces of pork intestine that provide the dish with a rich flavour, as well as some additional texture from its chewiness. The Chinese crullers and papadam help provide that textural balance in the dish with its crunchiness, making every bite pleasurable.

    Tips

Add other condiments to your bowl of porridge for more flavour such as soy sauce.

    Things to expect

The claypot might be very hot when it’s first served, so be careful.

The tropical teas to help cleanse the palette after enjoying this dish.

Porridge comes in various forms and sizes, and sometimes even made with the oddest ingredients such as the signature Frog Porridge here at Tasty Porridge. Though this may seem normal to most, it’s quite a delicacy to us. Served with a variety of salty vegetables with handpicked frogs cooked to tender perfection, it’s no wonder why many people wouldn’t mind hopping here for a bite. (If you’re less adventurous, they do serve regular dishes as well.)
    Tips

Frog porridge may be finished up early. Come earlier if you wish to try it out.
