Best Pisang Goreng Cheese in Klang Valley

Written by Updated ago

Pisang goreng cheese or rather, cheesy banana fritters is the new food trend swooping down in Malaysia. Roadside stalls selling this Indonesian delicacy has been popping up left, right and center of every empty spot by the road nowadays. I even spotted three of them in my housing area. It feels like there is going to be an attack of the pisang goreng cheese and soon, they will be planning for world domination by getting humans addicted to it. Sadly, I am one of those human being who has fallen victim to the cheesy & sugary deliciousness of the bananas. How can you not? Look at that melted cheese and glittery sugar on top of crispy freshly-fried bananas coated with a thin layer of flour… You may scoff now & think that this addiction is ridiculous but go ahead, I dare you to take a bite into one of the banana fritters sold at the stalls below & see if you can stop. I dare you.

I live near this Danau Kota area & I’m proud to say that my parents are frequent customers at this particular outlet. Shaved cheese thrown alongside brown sugar and condensed milk on hot hot hot banana fritters, the crispy + creamy combo is like heaven in a polysterene box. The owner, a young man named Din says that so far, they have managed to sell out 140 kg of bananas every single day without fail. Not bad for a small stall by the roadside. However, unlike the other shops listed here, Din Pisang Goreng Cheese prefer to stick true to the original recipe without any chocolatey addition or wacky flavours. Judging from the long queues, the formula seems to be working.
    Tips

Please come early or you might end up having to wait at the end of a very long queue

    Things to expect

Lots of crunch in every single bite

Ah, Jakarta… the birthplace of Pisang Goreng Cheese. But the owner is Malaysian, going by the name of Uncle Ahmad Lim. This outlet has some of the weirdest concoctions of recipes in the world of banana fritters such as Mandarin Melted Cheese which has slices of mandarin oranges, but I’m pretty sure it works, based on the demand and excellent review on Facebook. They even have crunchy Oreo and yeah, the crowd favourite, Messy Chocolate. The banana fritters here are different, they feel different. The skin is smoother and less jagged like most pisang goreng, so it tastes a little bit closer to its Indonesian counterparts. It’s probably a proven recipe since Pisang Cheese Jakarta has more than five outlets all over Klang Valley. Hmm… maybe Pisang Goreng Cheese is more than a food fad after all.
    Tips

They’re planning on releasing Pisang Penyet and Pisang Cheese Bakar to the public, so keep your ears and eyes out

    Things to expect

A whole new level of banana fritters.

This family-owned business has been operating since 15 years but only opting to sell pisang goreng cheese since 2014 when the craze erupted like a cheesy explosion. The interesting thing about this stall is their bananas, which is especially sourced from Gua Musang in Kelantan, arriving every Friday to the owner’s doorstep. Besides that, the store only uses two kinds of banana for selling, their pisang abu and pisang nangka (no, we don’t know what’s the scientific or English translation for species of banana, we only enjoy eating them). Attention to detail and quality control runs strongly in the blood of this family as they will check for the insides of the banana & only fry the really good ones.
    Tips

    Things to expect

More than just cheesy bananas are sold here. They also sell fried sweet potatoes, keropok lekor and fried soycake or tempe.

The Pisang Cheese is a very popular stall near Restoran Jamal Mohammed in Kelana Jaya. For those unfamiliar with that area, it is placed in a row with the infamous Nasi Lemak Kukus Kangkung. Unlike the other outlets in this list, The Pisang Cheese is an outlet which has concrete walls and a proper kitchen instead of just an outdoor tent. A measurement of this outlet’s popularity is evident in the fifty to eighty banana bunches selling out in a DAY! Another interesting part about this outlet is their delivery service. Back when I interned in Jalan Tun Razak, they even provide delivery service to KLCC’s area! Speaking of the choices available here, they have original, chocolae, white chocoloate, caramel, cinnamon, coffee and even allowing a mix of 4 different flavours. If you’ve been counting, you’d realise that they have SEVEN kinds of pisang goreng cheese sold to the mad, banana-loving crowd. They’re even active on Instagram which shows how personal touch is always important when it comes to business.
    Tips

They’re usually sold out by 5 or 6 pm, so after work, head straight on to this place or be prepared to be disappointed if it’s finished by the time you get there.

    Things to expect

Very thinly sliced bananas. Actually, the thinner, the better.

    Best with

A cup of good old hot tea.

This stall, run by ambitious youngsters has achieved major success all thanks to social media, the artists that flock their stall and also the major amount of cheese they pour onto their banana fritters. Located near Tune Hotel in Sunway Giza on Persiaran Mahogani, the stall is a very modest one and has many different kinds of flavour to choose, from plain cheese to blueberry and strawberry cheese. Happy customers has even commented positively on the fact that the owners shaved the cheese til his hands “grew tired”. Would you look at the sheer amount of cheesy goodness in the photo? Definitely not stingy in that department. In the food & beverage business, it is this kind of dedication that we absolutely adore in budding young entrepreneurs & The GorPis clearly has it.
    Tips

Look for the first stall on Persiaran Mahogani, don’t miss it!

    Things to expect

Lots of curly shaved cheese on top of sweet sweet sweet sugary delightful bananas.

    Best with

I’m gonna go the unhealthy route here & suggest a bottle of Coke to go with things.
