Best Laksa in PJ

Written by Updated ago

Laksa is one of the signature dishes of Peranakan cuisine. If you didn't know, Peranakan cuisine is of Peranakan origins - that are the early Chinese migrants who settled in the British ports of South East Asia (ie. Penang and Malacca). Since then, Peranakan cuisine has been a big part of Malaysian culture, especially in their home grounds of Penang and Malacca. While authentic Peranakan food is somewhat dependent on the pass-downs of generations of tradition, we are beyond glad to say that Malaysians' love for food has enabled these authentic dishes to be spread across the nation. Check out these serious contenders for the best laksa in Petaling Jaya!

You must be carrying a rabbit’s tail in your pocket, because SALTed has decided to bring an authentic delicacy from the east, with their Sarawak Laksa. With springy spaghetti noodles accompanied by rich and spicy fish gravy, it is no wonder the Laksa Johor is the best seller here!

Anyone around the vicinity would easily recommend outsiders to pay a visit to this hawker restaurant in O&S. O&S has been around for decades. Since then, the place has been dubbed as the "best Penang food in PJ" whereby you can find the likes of char kuey teow, Penang popiah, har mee (or hokkien mee) and of course, curry and of course, asam laksa! The fact that the restaurant is rarely unoccupied shows how determined people can be when it comes to good Malaysian food!

Over the years, Little Penang has been one of the more popular restaurants to get authentic Penang food. True enough, while the laksa and hokkien mee here may not top the original ones in Penang itself, the dishes are pretty authentic. Besides the famous Asam Laksa here, expect to be pleased with the Siamese Lemak Laksa which is of rich coconut milk base with rice noodles. Little Penang is pretty much the most convenient and accessible restaurant to go as there are various outlets in malls across PJ and KL.
    Tips

Siamese Lemak Laksa only available from Fri-Sun.

    Things to expect

The restaurant interior is relatively simple but yet comfortable with plenty of space and seating. Laksa Taman Bahagia

Located just a stone’s throw away from Taman Bahagia LRT Station, this little stall has been gloating up patrons for years with a delectable bowl of Kedah-style laksa. The size of the stall is pretty small but it’s easily identified thanks to the long queue. In contrary to the famous Penang version, the broth is milder in colour and the silky smooth noodles is cut into shorter strips. Despite the variation, the broth offers a subtle balance of sour and sweet flavours while the liberal topping of shredded fish, cucumber, onion, ginger buds and prawn paste rounds up the dish. The portion is pretty big and it does not put a hole in your wallet.

    Tips

Come before 8pm to avoid the long queue

    Things to expect

Self service & simple tables and chairs shattered in an open space
