If you enjoy a good plate of fried rice that isn't too dry, but still has that decent amount of 'wok hei', then The Prince Restaurant's fried rice is definitely the one for you. Coupled with cubed lap cheong (Chinese sausage), fresh prawns and mushrooms, the fried rice is both aromatic and flavourful. It's also soft and fluffy, which makes it really enjoyable for those that can't take dry food. In any case, there is also a vegetarian version available that is made with brown rice, which tastes a less heavy and somewhat 'healthier'.

Ahh fried rice. It's like the staple of Malaysians - we have so many variations of fried rice. Hot Kitchen's Vegetarian Asian Fried Rice looks like the typical nasi goreng Cina but it's infused with certain Thai and Malay style to it, making it unique and tasty. Slightly spicy but we know you can handle a bit of chilli.

The nasi goreng kampung at Makan Culture is very neatly plated. The mound of fried rice is at the centre of attention, with a few pieces of ikan bilis placed on top, along with the fried chicken and eggs on opposite corners, with a decent portion of pappadum and a bowl of chicken soup to go along with it. Upon the first bite, the rice certainly has the spicy kick that you look for in a nasi goreng kampung. The quintessential watercress makes an appearance in this dish. The fried egg gives the dish a creaminess and richness that is otherwise not present in the dish.

    Tips

Cut the fried egg open to let the yolk ooze out slowly.

    Things to expect

A complimentary bowl of chicken soup will be given with this dish.

    Best with

A glass of water will help wash down this rich dish.

This plate of the local classic with a mutton twist is unique in its own way. The minced mutton is mixed in well and cooked well to give the dish a great flavour that is not commonly associated with fried rice. The rice is just as well cooked and flavoursome as you would have come to expect from this Malaysian staple. With the addition of a a sunny-side up egg, a papadum, and the house special sambal belacan, the dish now has more flavours and textures that can be savoured, which allows the dish to elevate to a further degree.

    Tips

Cut through the egg on top and through the mound of rice to add flavour to the rice and get a closer look at all the ingredients.

    Things to expect

The mince mutton might be hard to find at first glance

WAY Modern Chinois is located right next to PLOY and is run by the same company. Like PLOY, WAY Modern Chinois likes to take dining to a whole new level, by reinventing and improving common dishes and making them a whole lot more luxurious and monumental. The Crab Roe Fried Rice is certainly head and shoulders above the rest. The crab eggs lends a subtle but rich infusion of flavours into the beautifully cooked long-grained rice - making it not only flavourful, but addictive as well.

Meticulously plated to bring out a neat, elegant sense in terms of aesthetics, this dish is a lot more than meets the eye. The rice, fragrantly fried, is accompanied by a host of delectable side dishes: fried chicken, 'acar timun', fish crisps, skewers of satay -topped with peanut gravy; and last but not least, a small serving of in-house 'cincaluk' (fermented small shrimps with chillis, shallots and lime juice). With a sunny-side-up-egg perched perfectly on top the rice, this is one plate of fried rice guaranteed to brighten up your day.
    Tips

Might want to remove satay skewer to have it along with rice.

Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf may just be the last place anyone expects to order a plate of fried rice from. However, do not be fooled as their fried rice is actually quite popular among the lunch crowds. The Roast Porky Fried Rice is done with a short-grained instead of the conventional long-grained. It is also significantly more moist and wet compared to most, which some may not enjoy. But to be fair, it is seasoned perfectly and the serving of roast pork is absolutely delicious.

Reservation available. Free water upon request.
