Best Clams in KL

Written by Updated ago

Ask a bunch of people whether they like clams and you'll hear a resounding yes. Clams are just as good as any other seafood and they're arguably more addictive as well! Locals would fondly call them lalas, and they have a good depth of flavour to them. They have a delicate but chewy texture, a taste that lets your mind stray to your last visit to the ocean. A nicely prepared dish of this will not have an overpowering fishy taste, but will be friendly acquainted with your taste buds.

The clams you'll find in Meng Kee have fat and soft flesh. Added with their sauce that is just the right combination of ginger, soya sauce and sugar, you'll end up with a very satisfied belly full of lalas. This makes Meng Kee a must try for all lala lovers! You don't even have to worry about those shells without meat in them as this is almost a non-existent problem here.

    Bakar

As their name implies, Bakar has their modern cuisine cooked over a grill flame. At the end of your meal, you'll have to agree that the flame-licked char is a delectable flavour. Although not as popular as some of their other dishes, their parcelled clam bake definitely deserves some of the spotlight as well. Even after the waiter clears the plate, the taste of its broth will continue to linger.

    Tips

Reservations can be made at their website

    Things to expect

The prices are a little on the higher side as it's a casual fine dining restaurant.

They only serve about 10 clams on a plate here. Are they being kiamsiap? Not at all! It's because they have giant live clams residing in their tanks. Riverboat Clams in Thai Sauce is beautifully flavoured with a sweet and spicy Thai sauce that has a tang of savouriness. You won't be able to help but to spoon up all the sauce to eat with your rice.

One of their recommended dishes on the menu, Fresh Clams will have seafood fans in awe. Their clams have a mild briny flavour that is further accentuated with the white wine sauce for a classier take. It's no wonder that these clams are one of Opus' best dishes. Remember to mop up their yummy sauce with the bread!
