Granny’s Hokkien Mee
Unlike most traditional Hokkien Mee stalls, here you are required to place your order using an order chit and the restaurant is easily spotted with a bright red signboard. As far as the taste is concerned, the prawn is decent enough with hint of sweetness and not being overly spicy. If that’s not enough, you can choose to top up with various add-ons including egg, mee/bee hoon, pig’s intestines, pork ribs and prawns for a fraction of a price! The portion may not be the biggest but most importantly, the flavours come together well.

Super Hokkien Mee
This Hokkien Mee stall is known for its ridiculously long waiting time. Yes, many avid Hokkien Mee lovers are willing to wait to get their fix here because they know the worth. If you can tolerate that, then you’re in for a treat. The soup is fragrant, with enough prawn flavours to wow your taste buds. The prawn itself is succulent and does come in a generous portion, and tastes great when you add a spoonful of red chilli paste on top. The employment of fried onions and slivers of steamed chicken further augments the whole flavour of the dish.

Kedai Kopi Ban Leong Ean
Kedai Kopi Ban Leong Ean is like your everyday coffee shop in Penang. It's old, it's somewhat considered 'heritage' and of course, most of the time it has good food. Apart from the standard orders of Kopi O or toasts, they also have a simple bowl of Hokkien Mee for those heavy eaters in the morning. The mix of noodles are nicely cooked and the broth is light but flavourful. It's neither too spicy nor bland, and has that good tinge of sweetness from the prawns. It is then topped with beansprouts, full-boiled egg, fried shallots and a spoon full of sambal for added kick.

Hokkien Mee @ Pasar Lebuh Cecil
Pasar Lebuh Cecil is one of the largest food courts in Penang with a huge variety of different dishes to try. The Hokkien Mee here is also fairly popular, as voted by both the locals and tourists. The unique thing about Pasar Lebuh Cecil's Hokkien Mee is in the noodles, where you have an option of a wiggler, almost Maggi-like noodles. The broth is also fairly mild with a good balance of sweetness and spiciness. Served with quarter of a full-boiled egg, shredded chicken, shrimps, beansprout and a toss of fried shallots. It's simple and it costs less than RM4.
