Clams, or lalas as many fondly call them, can be considered to be a staple ingredient when it comes to seafood. People love them for their delicate but chewy texture and briny taste. The fun of opening them up is probably a big bonus as well! Although Melaka isn't exactly famous for clams, there are still a few places in the area that serve up great lalas.

Tong Bee's Stall
Just say 'longkang siham' to any of the locals here and they'll direct you to the place. As unappetising the name is, don't let it get to you too much because if you want nice fresh clams, this is the place to go. Their nutty chilli sauce is probably why the stall has kept up for so long, it's that good! The food is so good you'll forget that you're eating by the longkang.

Hock Chin Restaurant
This is a famous spot among locals for their share of sihams and lalas. The clams are fresh and plump, clean of any grit as they make sure to prepare all their food well. Their dipping sauce is made of ground nuts and is sweet with a mild tinge of spiciness. Eat them together and you've found yourself a new go-to snack!

No Name Siham Stall
You won't find tourists flocking this place but the locals instead. This unnamed stall has been in the business of serving up fresh and good clams for the past 3 years. With such a cheap price tag, you'll find it hard to believe that you're getting such quality clams! Plump and juicy, these lalas are delicious even without the sauce!

Sea Terrace Seafood
One of the few top contenders at the Portuguese Settlement for seafood, you're sure to be more than delighted with the food here! Patrons are spoiled with choices as Sea Terrace has a wide selection of dishes on their menu and believe it or not, they're all good! Their clams do deserve a special mention though, simply because you can taste the natural sweetness of the flesh as well as that briny taste of the ocean.

Capitol Seafood
Located just after another popular stall, you can find fresh clams served with homemade sauce here as well! Their sauce has tinges of sourness to it that makes the fresh clams taste all the better and addictive as well. If you want to eat it for yourself, make sure you drop by earlier or there'll be no clams left!
