Restoran Sri Paandi
Restoran Sri Paandi is the cheapest of the best when it comes to banana leaf rice. It may be cheap, but it retains a high standard of quality and taste when it comes to its food. Their best dish is probably their deep fried fish. It is more than common for any restaurant to over fry their fish leaving it all dried out, but Sri Paandi serves it golden brown and crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Not a fan of fish? Not to worry, you can plunge headlong into a manner of meats or chow down tandoori chicken during evening hours.

Banana Leaf Restaurant
The banana leaf restaurant is probably the swankiest restaurants of its kind. It has a very modern, clean and well-lit interior. Despite the swanky appearance, the food remains down-to-earth as it should, offering delicious curries and colourful dishes that will leave you with a lingering desire for their food. For first timers, if you find the options are overwhelming, we highly recommended their fried chicken. Wrap up your meal with a glass of frothy teh tarik to amp up the aftertaste in your mouth. Besides that, you can choose to dine at the alfresco space, especially when football matches are displayed on the huge screen.

Curry Leaf Restaurant
The Curry Leaf Restaurant is definitely one of those restaurants you wish you knew about sooner. It’s a simple yet sleek space with the tastiest food, but the best bonus of all is that it is air-conditioned! The portions are generous and rather than waiting for the staff to wait on you, the side dishes are placed in a self-serve counter! Apart from the self-serve area, you may order a la carte, that also offer a divine variety of Northern Indian food, where among the starlet is the Curry Leaf Fried Platter, which consists of boneless Chicken 65, fried squid and prawns.

Acha Curry
Delightful, exceptional, and delicious are just some of the words that have been used to describe the food at Acha Curry, among the pioneers in the banana leaf rice scene. It is pretty standard to have a choice of chicken curry, fish curry, mutton curry and dhal as the gravy for your meal. Acha Curry, on the other hand, steps it up by offering three extra curries that are more than just delectable or mouth-watering: salted fish curry, onion curry and crab curry. If you’re a curry freak, you’re about to call this restaurant as your second home.

Sri Ganapathi Mess
A converted bungalow, Sri Ganapathi Mess certainly is another great place to enjoy delicious banana leaf rice. As always, you'll start with the standard serving of rice and vegetables, followed by as much curry as you want. You can either stop here, or proceed to burst your wallet by ordering some of their amazing side dishes like the mutton varuval, fried squid or even chicken masala - all of which are spiced and cooked to perfection. If plain rice isn’t up your alley, opt for briyani rice which offers a subtle spice ride even before the curries and gravies are thrown into the mix.

Kanna Curry House
Kanna Curry House has recently won the title of “Best Banana Leaf Restaurant in Klang Valley” by the Star People’s Food Awards so high expectations will inevitably follow but they certainly deliver on all accounts. Not a surprise from a banana leaf rice business that has been operating for almost three decades. The most highly applauded dish is their mutton varuval that has been cooked to tender melt-in-mouth perfection and properly enhanced by freshly ground spices. If you’re hankering for deep-fried goodness, you’re in for a feast too, with a selection of fish, chicken and squid all served piping hot. Just delicious!

Restauran Sri Grand City
When we talk about flavours, we're talking about Restaurant Grand City. Located across University of Malaya Medical Centre, this restaurant has been the hub of gathering for many students and young working adults. The food is incredibly affordable and the flavours are exceptional. Though the banana leaf rice may not be as presentable, the veggies that come along with it as well as side dish, are really flavourful and will certainly make you forget about the presentation. The real deal however is further gracing up the banana leaf with fried bitter gourd, fried chicken and mutton curry.

Kedai Makanan Raju lives up to its reputation of being one of the best banana leaf restaurants in PJ. Its food is known for being MSG free which is a huge bonus for those of us who are more health conscious. The fried squid is a must try to complement your banana leaf rice set that comes with three vegetables, rice and three choices of rich curries and dhal. May 'N' Mikes Spicy Corner
May 'N' Mikes Spicy Corner is all about having it simple - nothing too fancy, nevertheless delicious. The banana leaf meal is truly down to earth as it comes with a generous portion of rice, three side vegetarian dishes and a crispy papadam. It doesn't look as cluttered as most places and it's really easy to eat. Flavours are well on point without being too aggressive, while the side dishes are fairly limited but they make up with good flavours. All and all, a pretty decent place, especially for budget onlookers.
