Restoran Tong Sheng is a Chinese restaurant in Melaka located not far from the famous Jonker Street. Since it’s inception in 2009, the restaurant has been able to grow it’s customer base to the point that a long queue can usually be found at the restaurant as early at 6pm. As a result, it can be commonplace to find customers having to wait for almost 45 minutes before they’re even served the first morsel of food. Fortunately, the regulars here have since adjusted to this and even resort to making reservations at times.

As far as the food is concerned, the restaurant has a number of specialty dishes that will likely make an appearance at every single table at this restaurant. One of the dishes that’s been the centre of attraction for many regulars and newcomers of this establishment is the cheese prawn mee hoon. The other specialties include the fresh milk crab (which comes in toasted bread sticks as opposed to the commonly used fried mantou), and house special steamed tofu with duck/salted egg. There are also other dishes worth noting which include seafood items such as the Horlicks prawn balls, wasabi prawns, and different preparations of crabs like black pepper, salted egg, steamed, and curry. Pork and chicken dishes such as Vietnamese style pork belly, kampung chicken, deep fried honey pork, ginger chicken cubes, and much more.

So if you’re looking to try some Chinese food with a slight twist, do head down to Restoran Tong  Sheng. Trying out this restaurant will also be a great way to explore the state beyond Jonker Street.
