Don’t get the idea of bright coloured dim sum case but nevertheless. Jin Xuan Hong Kong is one of the most successful dim sum restaurant in Malaysia. Accounting to a total of 6 branches all over Klang Valley. Though they do not serve high-quality, Oriental restaurant-like dim sum, they sure do provide decent dim sum at an affordable price. Popular for its Siu Mai and various other dumplings, Jin Xuan Hong Kong has people coming from afar for a nice dim sum breakfast. Grace up the table with a couple of char siew baos too for optimal satisfaction.

    Tips

Breakfast usually full, sometimes as long as a 30 minute wait.

    Things to expect

Reasonably priced dim sum with decent quality and taste.

    Best with

Prawn Dumpling, Siu Mai and various other dumplings.

    Price

The dim sum at Secret Loc Cafe covers a wide range of options. From the steamed options, to the fried items; from main course items, to dessert, there’s a lot to choose from. The standouts in this extensive list have to be the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, the creamy custard bun and the fried radish cake. The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao has that burst of flavourful soup that you look for in this particular dim sum. The skin holds it all in very well without you having to worry about the soup spilling out of the seal. The fried radish cake is cooked very well, resulting in a crispy exterior with a soft interior that’s a pleasure to bite into. As for the creamy custard bun, the skin is just thick enough to hold the juicy, creamy filling in the centre, but easy enough to bite into to enjoy the filling inside that has a great consistency.

    Tips

Dim Sum items with a liquid center need to be handled with care.

    Things to expect

The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao does not come with a soup spoon unlike most dim sum establishments.

    Best with

The signature jasmine tea will pleasantly end the dim sum session

    Price

Kedai Kopi Mee Bon has been a dim sum place for many of the locals for years. Illiterate in English with no menu and pricing, most of what they do might seem pretty ambiguous. Waiters will come out with a tray filled with different types of dishes, walking around aimlessly, and awaiting customer’s order. Hence, it is crucial that you notify them by force (verbal force). In general, the food was pretty good with a reasonable portion, the only thing lacking was perhaps the service. On a side note, their chicken wing cooked in a paper bag is highly recommended too.

    Tips

First come first serve – there might be others who might fight for the same thing.

    Things to expect

Service slow and may be inattentive and some dim sum were made in house.

    Best with

Fish ball, prawn dumpling, steamed brinjal with fish paste and Big Pau.

    Price

    RM5.00 to RM10.00

The Han Room has been popular with many of the white collar working people within the Midvalley vicinity. Serving quality and delicious dim sum, it has definitely made a name for itself. Xin Cuisine has been around for quite some time. Previously known as Dragon Court Chinese Restaurant, it is now revamped with a newer design and decent menu choices. One of the key characteristics of the place includes the beautifully crafted dragon pillars within the restaurant and the entrance doors. Both which were pretty eye-catching and memorable. Food wise, you can assure that the quality and taste justifies the price. Though it may be slightly pricey, with the most expensive being RM18 per serving – it definitely was worth the price

The Ming Room is a full-fledged Chinese restaurant that serves Dim Sum for breakfast and ala carte for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What makes their dim sum a big hit is they are never skimp in terms of filling and each piece is given close scrutiny by the chefs. Interiorly, it’s pretty oriental with tables and chairs ranged not far from one another. It’s pretty difficult to manoeuvre in such a place. However, the staffs were friendly enough to attend to your calls and order, so no worries about going around looking for food – although there are live chefs cooking in front of everyone.

    Tips

Dim Sum sells out quite quickly – grab before everyone else does.

    Things to expect

Tight space with plenty of people during breakfast.

    Best with

Red Wine Pork Ribs, Tofu cooked in Crab Meat Gravy, Fried Yam, Egg Tart and Char Siew.
