The dim sum at Secret Loc Cafe covers a wide range of options. From the steamed options, to the fried items; from main course items, to dessert, there’s a lot to choose from. The standouts in this extensive list have to be the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, the creamy custard bun and the fried radish cake. The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao has that burst of flavourful soup that you look for in this particular dim sum. The skin holds it all in very well without you having to worry about the soup spilling out of the seal. The fried radish cake is cooked very well, resulting in a crispy exterior with a soft interior that’s a pleasure to bite into. As for the creamy custard bun, the skin is just thick enough to hold the juicy, creamy filling in the centre, but easy enough to bite into to enjoy the filling inside that has a great consistency.

    Tips

Dim Sum items with a liquid center need to be handled with care.

    Things to expect

The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao does not come with a soup spoon unlike most dim sum establishments.

    Best with

The signature jasmine tea will pleasantly end the dim sum session

Kedai Kopi Mee Bon has been a dim sum place for many of the locals for years. Illiterate in English with no menu and pricing, most of what they do might seem pretty ambiguous. Waiters will come out with a tray filled with different types of dishes, walking around aimlessly, and awaiting customer’s order. Hence, it is crucial that you notify them by force (verbal force). In general, the food was pretty good with a reasonable portion, the only thing lacking was perhaps the service. On a side note, their chicken wing cooked in a paper bag is highly recommended too.

    Tips

First come first serve – there might be others who might fight for the same thing.

    Things to expect

Service slow and may be inattentive and some dim sum were made in house.

    Best with

Fish ball, prawn dumpling, steamed brinjal with fish paste and Big Pau.
