Best Chicken Rice in Melaka

Written by Updated ago

A local favourite, our rendition of the classic Hainanese chicken rice usually comes with either roasted or steamed chicken. Malacca specifically is a hotspot for anyone who would want to try Malaysia's take on this Hainanese dish. In this UNESCO Heritage site, the distinctive element of Malacca's chicken rice is in its rice or perhaps, in this case, rice balls. So look out for these restaurants with the best chicken rice!

Standing tall and bright red in colour - Famosa Chicken Rice Ball was once known as the place to enjoy chicken rice balls along Jonker Street. Over the years, they had made a name for themselves but slowly lost its traction due to rising competition. Aside from all that, they have managed to stay in business all these years with their slightly oily, but still amazing steamed chicken and beautifully carved rice balls. As a whole, it is a lot oiler than most chicken rice balls in Melaka, which also gives it more flavour. Those that do not enjoy fat as much might not like what they have to offer.

For those who are not a fan of Malaccan chicken rice balls, you can always opt for something more common - like Ku Loong Kee's signature chicken rice. Just beautifully cooked chicken, a handful of beansprouts and a plate of fragrant steamed, oiled rice. The restaurant is fairly small and bare with nothing much to offer aside from their services and food. Tables are rather limited as well. All and all, this restaurant is great for a small family meal, or even for tourists coming with friends.
