Located on the first floor above the Starbucks at Centrepoint in Bandar Utama is Baan Kun Ya (which directly translates to "grandmother's house" in Thai), a newly opened Thai restaurant that is a part of the Thai Odyssey group. Even though it is a new restaurant (opening in November 2015), it has become very popular among the locals very quickly, and the restaurant can be very crowded during peak hours, so it is often recommended to arrive at the restaurant earlier to avoid the crowd.

As the name would suggest, the environment is certainly warm and cosy, allowing diners to ease themselves in before eating even begins. Also, the ornaments and decorations are worth more than an Instagram post.

Speaking of eating, diners can enjoy a myriad of Thai dishes that live up to the namesake as they're all cooked from scratch. When it comes to the starters, diners can expect to find the usual suspects like Thai fish cake, salads and spring rolls, on top of the other less familiar appetisers like the golden triangle and leaf-wrapped salad bite. The majority of the dishes here are meant to be shared with a large group of people.

Some of these dishes include  tom som pla, tom yam, roasted duck Panang curry, crab meat omelette, steamed chicken with Thai herbs, deep fried seabass with mango salad, stir fried morning glory, and much more. There are also individual dishes to be had here such as pad thai, beef noodle soup, and fried rice to name a few.

Baan Kun Ya also takes great consideration as far as desserts go, with items like the mango sticky rice, 5-coloured crispy rubies, and much more. Beverage wise, milkshakes and fresh juices are the best bet to wash down all you've eaten.

In short, Baan Kun Ya is definitely a Thai restaurant worth trying out for many reasons, some of which include its great food and incredibly welcoming decor.
