Sin Guat Keong Coffee Shop

Sin Guat Keong is a typical coffee shop that consists of different stalls selling different delicacies. Can be spotted at the intersection of Kimberley Street and Cintra Street in George Town, Penang, the restaurant is perfectly situated at the centre of Penang’s food culture. Fun fact: the shop’s name actually means ‘new moon palace’ in Hokkien. Among the local foodies, this place is famous for its Char Kuey Teow stall. However, there are also other hawkers offering variety of food such as chee cheong fun, mee goreng and mee rebus.

So what makes the Char Kuey Teow special? This stall includes delicious fried mantis prawns, prawns and cuttlefish in their dish and one plate is priced from RM5 and above depending on your toppings. You will love the sweet and strong seafood essence and its moist texture. For efficiency purposes, they prepared pre-fried noodles that will be fried again once customers made their orders. But the taste and texture of the char kuey teow remains the same – super delicious.

Besides that, there is also a Hokkien Mee joint that serves delicious Hokkien Mee with spare ribs. Just by the scent of it, you can tell that the dish is going to be delicious. Fried shallots added in the dish brings out a nice aroma to the broth. You will not only enjoy the delightful taste of the spare ribs, but also the flavour of the soup which is thick and flavourful. The Hokkien Mee can cost you up to RM7 a bowl, but with the big portion, it is totally worth it. Drink wise, they provide pretty good drinks. Iced water chestnut drink and iced Nescafe is among the recommended beverages. You can also try Yong Tau Fu here.
