Hokkien Mee is a Malaysian and Singaporean gastronomy originated from China’s Fujan region. The dish usually contains rice noodles and egg noodles pan-fried with egg, squid and prawns, slices of pork, and garnished with lard, vegetables, lime and sambal sauce. The description above made you salivate isn’t it? Apparently, you can have one of the recommended Hokkien Mee at a restaurant called Granny's Hokkien Mee situated in Penang.

This restaurant is tucked under one of the flats at Taman Lip Sin. Since its opening in 2014, patrons keep on coming for more flavourful bowls of Hokkien Mee. Even though you have to wait for at least 30 minutes long before putting your hands on probably the best Hokkien Mee in town, you will be impressed with the generous amount of Pork Lards served on top of the noodles. However, the Lards will only be given upon request and it’s free of charge too!

Your bowl will be filled with bright red shade from the Chilli paste, but you can always add it at your preferred quantity. The broth gives out a nice sweet savoury coming from the prawns and a bit of smokiness from the fried shrimp shells. The soup is nice and warm perfect to be consumed right away.

Despite the small portion, this dish has a genuine, aromatic, and spicy flavour to it. Some Hokkien Mee connoisseurs said that even though it is not the best in Penang, but it is certainly delightful apart from its slightly pricier side.

Considering the fame and most importantly, the delicious flavours, this place is highly recommended for Hokkien Mee fans out there.
