Duck Egg Char Koay Teow @ Mei Le Hwa Bukit Mertajam

Any famous dish of Penang can never go wrong especially if it involves the ever classic of Penangites called Char Kuey Teow. But of course, when mentioning Penang, Char Kuey Teow cannot be left out of as they are synonymously of one another. But considering that they are almost at every corner of Butterworth or even Georgetown, there is one that stands out among the many. Called Duck Egg Char Koay Teow, this famous stall is located inside Mei Le Hwa Restaurant in Jalan Kampung Baru in Bukit Mertajam.

Manned by Ah Heng, the mastermind behind this work of art, this Char Kuey Teow is no ordinary one and in fact Ah Heng adds a little twist to the dish by using duck egg instead the usual chicken egg. Duck galore one might say as not only the duck is cooked together with the kuey teow where bits and pieces of the yolk coating the dish deliciously drugging its eaters to want for more, but the duck egg is also fried as a sunny side up as a side dish to complement the main.

The runny yolk with perfectly cooked whites is the ultimate fitting side to have with Ah Heng’s famous Duck Egg Char Kuey Teow. Apparently a little less known fact, Ah Heng has been in business for more than 35 years and still is going strong
