Sek Yuen Chinese Restaurant is located at the older streets of Pudu. With minor touch ups and renovation, the restaurant and its shopfront looks as if it was stuck in a time-warp in the 40s or 50s. Well this quaint joint is one of the oldest restaurant currently in operation today after all. Serving more than 6 decades of traditional and authentic Chinese food, the place has received plenty of praise and loyal customers along the way. Apart from the classic Chinese dishes, there are more refined dishes that require pre-order, such as Braised Duck Stuffed with Sharks Fins, Roasted Suckling Pig, Pig Trotters stuffed with glutinous rice and so on. Contrary to the usual dishes, the price is higher for the special items.

With tables set-up outdoors on an open carpark, you know Lau Heong is not the prettiest restaurant you can find. However, here you’ll be dining on some of their best seller such as the tasty grilled squid with sauce, curry fish head and fried chicken wings – all cooked to absolute perfection with just the right amount of flavour! Pair those delectables with up with 2-3 bowls of rice and you’ll bound to appreciate the open-air ambience. Having said that, they actually do provide an air-conditioned dining area on the first floor.

Sandwiched between 2 car workshops, Restoran Chef Low isn’t exactly the easiest restaurant to find. Located right at the back of TMC Mini-mart, along the not-really-pleasant-looking row of shophouses in Lucky Garden, this restaurant has been operating for more than 30 years and serving gastronomical dishes that ranges from vegetables to poultry and seafood. Literally, anything you could imagine in a Chinese restaurant, Restoran Chef Low would have either had it, or is still having it. Dishes such as the appetizing Salty Egg with Pumpkin and sumptuous Xiong Tong Lala are definitely the once you need to include on your order list!
    Tips

Park along the roadside right in front of the housing area.

Pik Wah restaurant has been around since the 70’s and did you know that it is also a place for famous actors, actress, politicians and businessmen to meet and dine? Throughout the years, they have been shifting around several places, and after sometime, they have finally settle down right behind the Stadium Negara, below the MABA house. This adventurous restaurant presents you dishes you cannot find anywhere else along with great depth of flavours and textures – fish as fresh as if they were just caught and sauces that tingles around your tastebuds. Pik Wah has also been well received by people of elder generation (obviously). Hence, we believe that it deserves a spot here, to allow young working adults to cherish the authentic taste as well!

    Restoran Sun Chui Yuen

Restoran Sun Chui Yuen has been a household name among the locals for a quite some time. The ambience is rather simple and unpretentious but the food here is no less of deserving an applause. Your first and last hurdle would be selecting your dishes from the extensive menu. We recommend starting with their shark fin soup and moving forward with black pepper crab and salted egg tiger prawns. Another scoring point here is the wide selection of grilled seafood as well as other Malaysian delights like satay. And don’t be stressed up by the pricing, it's known to be reasonable.

Chong Yen Steamed Fish Head Restaurant has garnered a reputable status over the years for what else, their steamed fish head. The restaurant is pretty spacious yet it’s usually chockful during lunch hours. There are a number of flavour variations for the fish head, however the best seller is the original version, where a heady mix of minced ginger and garlic are steamed together with the fish. Aside from the flavours, the texture of the fish itself is commendable, fresh and flakes off the bone with ease. To further evoke your expectation, they have been featured in an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.

Nothing to write home about the ambience of the restaurant but what draws in a diverse crowd all the time is the delicious food. Options are pretty extensive that might have first timers overwhelmed, however we highly recommend their stir-fried black pepper pork slices, deep-fried crispy fish with soy sauce dressing, fried prawns with yam sticks and spinach soup. The traditional measure is to savour these dishes is with steamed white rice, but if noodle is your thing, Hokkien Mee is a subtle substitute. The best part is you won’t be expecting a spirit-sapping bill in the end.

This is another restaurant that you should include in your list if you so crave for Chinese food, or Dim Sum in particular. They specialise in classic Cantonese dishes that is highly inspired by the ancestral delicacies from the 19th century.

The interior is equally stunning as the food. Customers will be welcomed by high ceilings, lavish chandeliers and beautifully crafted flooring. Diners are given the liberty to watch experienced chefs prepare their food in an open kitchen such as the black pepper beef tenderloin and delicious handmade dim sum.

Way Modern Chinois offers a modern twist to traditional Chinese cuisines. The restaurant is on a higher scale when it comes to the price, but if you are willing to pay a bit extra; this is clearly the place to be. With the entrance à la speakeasy concept: elevator doors act as the main entrance to this restaurant. The Truffle Roast Duck (which requires a pre-booking the day before) is succulent and juicy, every bite easily melt in your mouth. There are plentiful of elevated Chinese cuisines such as Abalone Congee with Truffle Oil, Wagyu Fried Rice, and also Waterless Chicken Soup to name a few. When it comes to the presentation of the food, all dishes are easy on the eye, making it worthy for Instagram posts.
