Pontian Wanton Noodles (Subang) Subang Jaya

Pontian Wanton Noodles is nestled along the shop houses heading towards Taylor’s University’s campus in SS15. It is favoured by locals and students alike and is one of the to-go places in that area for a good and hearty serving of noodles. Pontian is a district in Johor which is famous for their wanton noodles. With over 60 years of history, this particular franchise has 6 outlets in Singapore alone and another 5 in Malaysia. The shop front itself is humble looking, with a spacious and comfortable interior. The tables, chairs and floor are made of wood, adding to the village-like atmosphere.

The Wanton Mee in Pontian is different from those serves in other places in the sense that theirs is usually served with chilli or tomato sauce mixed inside. It might sound cringe-worthy, but they do fit surprisingly well with the rest of the ingredients. Their signature dish is the Wanton Noodles with Chili and Black Sauce. It is hotter than your average chili sauce, with the savoury dark soy sauce perfectly complimenting the spiciness. The noodles are not of the curly variety and quite thick. However, they are bouncy and springy, served with a generous amount of char siew and a choice of steamed or fried dumpling.

Their Wanton Noodles with Tomato Sauce is also amazingly delectable. The tomato sauce coats every single strand of noodles evenly, leading to a sour tinge that is slightly sweet at the same time. The Soup Wantons are sweet and juicy while the fried ones are deep fried to a crispy finish. If you are a fan, do add some pickled green chilies to your meal as they as extremely tangy and appetizing.
