Ampersand (or spelled as Am.per.sand), formerly known as Ecole P, is a joint force of co-founder Steven the Magician along with three others – G-Man, the Butcher and Ray-Man. Inspired by food and rebellious by attitude (thus the name Culinary Rebel), Ampersand was specifically designed for sharing and pushing taste palettes. Located in Damansara Uptown, this little café fashions a simple yet cosy interior to further contribute the unique experience to patrons.
Sharing is caring thus Ampersand thrives to cater to show what sharing means to them. This trait is shown on their big breakfast platter – the Banana Leaf Breakfast is a huge spread of scrambled eggs, crispy grilled bacon, tomato relish, mixed mushrooms, hashbrown, double cooked potatoes, german bratwursts and Lebanese bread all served one-by-one on a vast banana leaf similarly to a banana leaf rice meal. Sufficient for four or two people, this dish is only available during weekends and public holiday. Other must-try weekend dishes are The Sinful French and Monster breakfast.
If you are there on a weekday, Ampersand’s signature pork ribs are a wonderful alternative. Their Cacao Ribs serves Spanish pork ribs, cocoa rub, honey bacon popcorn, chocolate balsamic alongside mashed potatoes and salad. If you are more of a pork belly lover, try their pork belly dishes specially prepared by either the Magician, Ray or and the Butcher. The X-rated by the Magician serves a german pork belly, char siew sauce, tofu puree and peanut butter mustard. Other must-try dishes are roasted chicken, pasta and signature chicken wings.
Before making your way, do not forget to try the desserts which are elegantly prepared by the Magician, one of the chefs at Ampersand. Try their recent creation, Killing Me Softly, a richly complex dessert of a Valrhona peanut butter lava cake oozing over crispy pork bacon, chocolate sand and Kapiti vanilla ice cream. To accompany alongside your meal, beverages such as coffee, tea, chocolate, mojito, juices and soft drinks are available.
