If you want some Malay cuisine for lunch, drop by Warung Cherry that is located under a flyover at Kampung Sungai Penchala, Damansara. Who knew despite the fast development in the area, there is this little gem that apparently a lot of people knows about. Here, you can find a lot of really good Malay food which is better known as ‘nasi campur’ among Malaysians. There are extensive side dishes that you can choose from, like the range of seafood, chicken, gulai, asam pedas, ayam goreng berempah and various vegetable dishes that are really delicious and mouth-watering.

 

Patrons love having lunch here due to the freshness of the ingredients used, but most importantly, the fishes are fresh. There are about 100 of different selections of ‘lauk’ that are stacked on top of each other to save some space. Your Malay meal won’t be complete without some ‘ulam’ – raw vegetables that is eaten with a generous amount of Sambal Belacan or Tempoyak. Which leads to the main attraction; the Sambal Belacan. It is spicy, packed with shrimp paste, and a hint of lime juice to add some punch. You can choose many other choice of sambal belacan that are less spicy. Either you eat it with a side dish or just a simple plain rice, it will still taste wonderful.

 

Among the crowd’s favourites are Gulai Ketam, Patin Tempoyak, Pulut Durian, Sup Tulang, Siakap Masak Tempoyak, Gulai Siput, Sambal Terung, Nasi Dagang, Laksam, Sup, Ikan Keli Bakar, Nasi Kerabu, Kerabu Kaki Ayam, Gulai Ayam Kampung, Gulai Daging, Ayam Percik and Kuih Cek Mek Molek. Price wise, it is all depends on how many dishes you took. But of course, vegetable dishes are much more affordable compared to seafood and meat dishes.
