Restoran Lai Kee is a renowned eatery among Skudai folks for serving delectable fish ball soup and noodles since 1987. The restaurant is handled by the owner, Mr. Lai himself, and sometimes you can also spot him busy cooking and preparing the delicious cuisines. Most of their customers consist of third generation followers who grew up eating Lai Kee fish balls. So do expect the place to be packed by young and old generations at any hour of the day.

 

Made with 100% fresh Ikan Parang (Wolf Herring) every day with only salt and seasoning as the added ingredients, the fish balls served here is among the best ones in town. Each and every fish balls are handmade using only a spoon just like the old traditional way. To keep its freshness, the fish balls are all kept in buckets of ice water. Since it is homemade, none of it are perfectly rounded, snowy white, or even bouncy because they are handmade, not bleached, and consists of 100% fish meat without any flour or starch. And that’s what makes them tasty and special.

 

The fish ball noodle soup is one of the must-try dish at Restoran Lai Kee. The soup is strongly aromatic, mixed with lard crunches and quite oily. The fish balls on the other hand, are perfectly firm and bouncy. In every bite, you can taste the fresh fish taste with a hint of salt.
