Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow George Town

Hawker food is notoriously known for its unhygienic cooking conditions and unappetizing seating conditions – by the side of the drains, in front of the washroom entrance etc. But after all that, many still go back for the taste because let’s face it, the best tasting food do not always come from premium level restaurants. Oily and wok fried food are among the favourites of Malaysians, especially those that has been around for ages.

Situated in Kafe Heng Huat, the lady who runs the stall is probably one of the most famous in the state – known for her politeness and of course good char kuey teow. Being this popular, you would expect people from all over Malaysia (and the locals) to come try this place out. Well, the usually busy crowded shop results in you waiting in long queues, long waiting time, and not very clean tables. But if you do not mind tolerating all that, then one thing is for sure, it is probably going to be worth it.

Famous solely for its char kuey teow, other things that are sold in the shop are also beginning to gain in popularity for example the fried oysters with egg. It is best eaten with a plate of char kuey teow as it adds on a little flavour in to your plate. Also, on a hot day, ice kacang (shaved iced, Malaysian style) and cendol (similar but different style) is available to help you out through your experience.
