Best Tong Sui in KL

Written by Updated ago

Literally translated to 'sugar water', tong sui is a Cantonese term for any sweet soup. With that said, the origins are indeed from China but only amongst Cantonese communities. For some people, tong sui can be an acquired taste as these sweet soup desserts are made of ingredients that are not usually found in desserts, such as sweet potato, beans and tofu. We have lined these restaurants up for you so you can find the best tong sui in our central city!

Rankings of all participants as visible on our listings are solely voted by you, our beloved readers. With that said, we would encourage you to please vote for your preferred participants in order to ensure their rightful positions ranking-wise on our portal. Thank you!

Situated at Pandan Indah, Soon Kee Herbal House specializes in Chinese desserts. When it comes to tong sui, the utmost priority besides taste is it's healthy and fresh ingredients. Besides their best-selling Longan Tofu (must try!), you'll find other equally delicious desserts such as Honeydew Sago, White Fungus & Barley and even Ginseng & Snowfrog. Though tong sui is not as pretty as dolly cakes and colorful tarts, there won't be any healthier desserts around.

K.T.Z, also known as 'Kei Tak Sei' which literally translates to 'Remember to Eat', is a humble stall that offers a fantastic array of tong sui to the people of Kepong. If you do not mind the lack of air-conditioning, as well as a clean and proper place to dine, then you will be fine. The place does feel a lot like a hut, but hey, at least their desserts are good. The standard offerings includes lychee, longan, white fungus, lily buds, and lotus seed. They also have their shaved ice series, which is great to counter the heat of Malaysia.

It is without a question that Din Tai Fung's steamed dumplings are remarkable but we reckon the tong sui/desserts are also equally delightful but underrated. Pictured here is the boiled papaya and sweet fungus soup that oozes out pleasant sweet notes onto your taste buds. It is the perfect finale to your dim sum fun!

    Tips

Several branches across PJ and KL.

As it is named, this spot is another dessert house for Chinese inspired fusion desserts. Besides the classic tong sui such as glutinous rice soup, birds nest and tau foo fa, there are also snow ice desserts with fruits, cereal and ice cream. The brand itself has been somewhat commercialized and thus, prices are steeper than usual. While some hot kitchen food is available here, we wouldn't recommend it...

    Tips
