Now, roast duck may have been a common, easy-to-get Chinese dish by today’s standard, but did you know that it was once treated like a king, just as luxurious as the Emperor of China himself? The origin of this scrummy fowl can be traced way back as early as the Yuan Dynasty era (1206-1368) where dietician Hu Sihui, in his book of ancient food wisdom (Complete Recipes for Dishes and Beverages), hinted us that it’s one of the popular dishes in the imperial court menu. Well, enough with the history lessons. What’s important is Asians today can easily relish the crackly crispy skin and the juicy along with steamed rice or noodles, or even the meat on its own.
