Nasi Ulam (ulam rice) is a steamed rice
dish diverse with various shredded herbs including wild pepper leaf, cashew
leaf shoots, onions, lemon basil, vegetables, spices and other various side
dishes. Kerisik and other spices are added for an extra nutty flavour. At
times, shredded fried fish is mixed in as well. The dish is a feature of Malay
cuisine where it can be commonly found in Malaysia. Particularly one of the
better authentic dishes in comparison to the famous ones out there. So here’s a
few selected ones that have mastered the art of Nasi Ulam in the vicinity of
Kuala Lumpur.
