Best Nasi Briyani in KL

Written by Updated ago

This dish comes in so many almost identical names that you would twist your tongue pronouncing it one right after the other: biryani, biriani, briyani. Nasi Briyani is the label that we are comfortable with in describing the popular rice dish typically found in mamak or Indian restaurants. Branded as one of the favourite food staples among many Malaysians, it requires an extended cooking time to fulfil that desired flavour and aroma spawned from long-grain rice (basmati is most commonly-used), assorted spices, and meats (chicken, lamb or beef) or vegetables. Depending on the quality of the meal, you can eat the delicious rice on its own or together with curry and other delicious side dishes such as acar or raita (yoghurt with chopped cucumbers and spices). Thanks to its potpourri of rich ingredients, it helps stimulate appetite, and at the last bite, your tummy will acknowledge it as a satisfying, filling meal!

Not many people knows that Mid Valley actually has 2 food courts, and this particular one is well hidden from the public. Commonly visited only by the staffs of Mid Valley, Restoran Selera (Makan Place) is a place that is incredibly affordable - like RM4-5 sort of affordability. A great place to visit if you find the restaurants here expensive. Inside, you'll find various stalls but not all of them are operating. However, the popularity of the nasi briyani has allowed them to continue operating without much issue. It's nothing fancy, but the aroma permeates and flavours last.
