Best Loh Mee in Penang

Written by Updated ago

Loh Mee is a Malaysia staple that originated during the migratory waves of Hokkien people. Similar to most soupy noodle dishes out there, the main draw of loh mee is the broth which is a melange of soy sauce, starch, meat or crustacean stock and eggs. The thick and flavoursome broth is then ladled onto yellow noodles and topped with braised meats, eggs and sprinkle of fried scallions. For a dose of heat, chilli concoction is also provided. Comforting, fulfilling and full of flavours – eateries below put their heart and soul to deliver standout bowls of loh mee that tugs your heart upon the first mouthful. Be sure of heading over with an empty stomach.

    Million Loh Mee

This spacious establishment gives loh mee lovers all reasons to be buoyant, especially if you fancy chicken feet to share space in your bowl too. The thick broth scores on both texture and flavour and they are never skimp on the ingredients such as pork skin, braised egg and the key player - chicken feet. The braised feet are cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, complementing the springy noodles. Condiments like vinegar, chopped garlic and chilli condiment lineup for that additional oomph.

During peak hours, waiting time may be a little longer but just peering at the stall owner preparing bowls after bowls of moreish noodles certainly makes time run fast. The dark gravy is a masterstroke, it truly shackles onto your taste buds with subtle richness and starchiness. The bed of noodles is then topped with fried pork lards, smatterings of shrimps, hard-boiled egg, fried onions and chopped garlic. Ignore table manners as slurping is a standard when you have a merrymaking bowl like this.
