Steamboat Haven (炉圣) George Town

Steamboat has became one of Malaysians’ favourite cuisines, regardless the humid weather that we have all-year round. Steamboat Haven is one of the many Steamboat places located at Jalan Fettes, Penang. The place is simply furnished with oriental-themed marble tables and dark pine chairs. The bottom half of the walls are darker in colour and is stone textured which makes cleaning the splatters and smudges of the steamboat so much easier. Some people may not really favour steamboats considering that they will end up sweaty and greasy, fret not because Haven Steamboat is fully air-conditioned with sealed doors and ceiling fans as a solution.

Unlike most steamboat restaurants that are known for their variety of sauces or soup bases, Steamboat Haven provides only one soup base to go with the basic steamboat ingredients. Although lacking on variety, Steamboat Haven compensates with their Fish Head Noodle soup base. Do not expect the milk-based Fish Head Noodle Soup, Steamboat Haven’s clear soup base is flavoured with fresh fish as well as deep fried fish and chunks of yam and cabbages.  The highlight of the soup base would be the hint of sour plum which adds an appealing flavour to the soup and finished with some chopped cilantro.

The natural sweetness of the fish in the soup complements the fresh ingredients such as fresh seafood, meat slices and vegetables very well. The ingredients are as important as the soup base when it comes to steamboat. Here in Steamboat Haven, sets of as less as 2 pax and as much as 10 pax are available for order with assorted steamboat ingredients included in the combo. Of course, a la carte add ons are available as well.

Perfect for family dinners or dinner with friends, definitely check Haven Steamboat out if you are looking to get your Steamboat cravings fix.
