Located at the intersection of Jalan Semarak and Jalan
Padang Tembak lies Medan Selera Semarak, a complex in Kampung Datuk Keramat that’s
both a morning wet market and a food court. There are more than 21 stalls in
this food court which cumulatively serve a wide variety of food (predominantly Malay
and Mamak food) and beverages. The food and beverages at some of these stalls
includes tom yam, pisang goreng, soups, teh tarik, fried seafood, fried
chicken, roasted meats, and much more.
That said, one of the standouts in this food court is stall
2 & 3; a stall specialising in Kelantanese food, which is already a rarity
in most food courts in Kuala Lumpur as it is. The most authentically
Kelantanese dish here has to be the nasi kerabu, which has all the necessary
components to deliver a great plate of this Kelantanese delicacy. The greatest
trademark of this dish is undoubtedly the mound of blue rice, which obtains it’s
colour from the buds of the butterfly-pea flower (kembang telang), while also
giving it it’s distinct aroma. Then there are the other equally important
ingredients such as chopped long beans, cabbage, coconut sambal, and keropok
which make up the rest of the dish. Other sides from other stalls such as fried
chicken can be ordered to further enhance the dining experience.
So if you’re ever in the Kampung Datuk Keramat area and are
looking to experience that old school food court feel together with some
Kelantanese food, your best bet is certainly going to be in Medan Selera
Semarak.
