Travelling to Johor and have a craving for seafood? There are a couple of seafood restaurants located in an Orang Asli village named Taman Laguna but this one in particular outshines the other four restaurants in the area.
Known as Restoran Asli Makanan Laut Mutiara Biru, it is situated in Perling Town, at the edge of a jetty, and is very close to Singapore. One can just take a 30-minute drive from Woodlands Checkpoint. According to history, the restaurant has started its business long ago even before the proper modern development of Taman Laguna. Accompanied with a beautiful rural view of the sea and breath-taking sunsets, it is quite popular for its freshness of fishes, squids and crabs. How fresh you say? Well, the crabs are mainly still tied up for you to pick your favourite meaty ones and the fishes are still healthily swimming within the water tanks.
Despite its dirt cheap prices of each dish, the portion is big and worth it. However, this place is pretty hidden within the area and is difficult to locate without a local guide.
A few customer favourites include Fried Crab with Salted Egg, Deep fried Squid’s Rings, Teochew Style Steamed Fish, Indonesia Curry Prawn and Fried Kangkung.
Rest assured if you are unable to get a guide, there are always taxis around to bring you into the village and if you manage to be in the area, you would need to look for the exact name for the other restaurants are said to be more expensive than this one!
