Jalan Tengah Roti Canai Jalan Tengah

Roti Canai is a type of Indian flatbread usually sold in mamak stalls. Famously known as the favourite breakfast choice, its versatility also makes it great for meals at any time of day. Jalan Tengah Roti Canai is a small stall in the flats area of Jalan Tengah. Sharing the compound with Sin Kim Sing Café, you would get a crowd coming here in the morning for a taste of their famous roti canai. With a history of around two decades, the stall is run by an Indian family where each family member is assigned with specific tasks.

The menu is kept simple with only two options available, plain Roti Canai and Roti Telur (egg). Many similar establishments attract customers by offering as much variation and creating new recipes with Roti Canai, but sometimes less is more. Their roti canai is critically acclaimed to be excitingly crispy, even if you don’t eat it straight out of the pan. Only requiring mere minutes to cook on the always hot, wide pan, each side only need a couple of minutes before taking it off the heat and fluffed up the edges. Time is crucial to ensure that there are no burnt marks and the bread are nicely golden and crispy. Usually served with curry and dhal, the curry at this stall has a slight sweet taste made much better with the addition of anchovy sambal.

There are no rules when it comes to the best way to enjoy your roti canai. You can flood the plate with a mixture of all the condiments; you can eat it on its own, or soaked a piece in the curry for a while to fully get that flavour.
