Ah Soon Kor Har Mee George Town

Ah Soon Kor Har Mee is very famous among Penang folks. Quite popular for their Hokkien Mee, this humble stall offers an improved version of the simple noodle dish of past generations by adding roasted pork, mantis prawn, and spare ribs. But, what exactly is a Hokkien Mee?

Hokkien Mee is another delicious Penang delicacy. In another word, it is prawn noodle. It consists of yellow noodles serve with flavourful prawn soup base, garnish with pork slices, bean sprouts, fish cakes, and topped with prawns and shallots.

Back to the restaurant. Their Perak Road branch conquers two shop lots which make the place more comfortable and spacious for people to dine in. This restaurant serves two kinds of Har Mee; normal and special. The special one is prepared with extra mantis prawn and roasted pork. It is also big in size and the add-on ingredients is a bonus.

To enhance the natural flavour of the dish which can be sweet and full of prawn flavour, you can add some chilli paste. The chilli paste is not only home-made but it also thicker compared to the regular ones.

Have a taste of their signature Mantis Prawn Hokkien Mee. Prepared with a plentiful amount of Roasted Pork, sliced Hard Boiled Egg, deep fried Mantis Shrimp and Shrimps. It is said that the taste of the broth is enhanced by the rich flavour of pork stock. Although the original ones have fewer ingredients with only slice prawn, egg and slice meat, but they still taste as good as the special ones.

This place might be small and lack of parking spots, but they offer very good Hokkien Mee. For a very good dish of prawn mee, you might just want to ignore the ‘flaws’ to enjoy the special dish.
