Just as the name suggests, Brilliant Nasi Lemak House is famous for its variety of nasi lemak dishes, however their desserts are no slouch either. Certainly an ideal match, as the refreshing dessert sure puts all those spiciness at bay and there are three versions to choose from. But what’s really intriguing is their delicious Red Bean with Cashew Nut. I mean, how often you get to enjoy a bowl of finely shaved ice with cashew nuts? Quite unlikely, no? Overall, it hits the right spot between taste and texture.

    Tips

You’re in luck if you want your main course that comes with a dessert. At RM17.80, you’ll get a hearty plate of nasi lemak consists of fried chicken drumstick, sambal prawn and prawn as well as a bowl of their leng chee kang (sweet lotus dessert) variation known as Brilliant’s Dessert.

Stall No. 22 Ayer Panas Hawker Centre

This particular hawker centre may have made most of its name for its unique Hennessy Lor Mee, but a common rule lived by the locals is to conclude their meal with a bowl of ice kacang. Besides being photo-worthy with all those engaging colours over a stalagmite of shaved ice, the flavours are pretty good too. While all the usual ingredients are expected here, it was the soft and tender red beans that stood out the most. What makes it extra good is the wallet-friendly price tag that encourages you to get one even if the sun is pretty kind.

    Tips

Look for the stall that has plenty of empty Hennessy boxes hanging all over the ceiling.

    Things to expect

Great, yet authentic taste of red beans instead of the typical canned version.

    Best with

Complete your gastronomic delight with a plate of Hennessy Lor Mee as the main course before finishing your meal with this sensational ice kacang dessert.

Located near the T-junction at Jalan Kepong Baru, Fei Zai Long (literally means “Fat Boy Long”) or Fatty Loong is popularly known by the locals for his signature ice kacang dessert. Unlike the coarse and flaky shaved ice often found in most stalls, the ice here is so smooth that goes easy into your mouth. Also check out its thick and sweet Gula Melaka syrup and the generous amount of sweet ingredients blanketed at the bottom of the shaved ice. You name it – red bean, cendol, grass jelly, roasted peanuts, sweet corns and even nata de coco thrown in for a good measure!
