Coconut beverage is known as a great thirst quencher and more so in Malaysia, especially given our typically hot weather. But what about coconut ice cream? It’s certainly nothing new in term of its flavour, and yet Sangkaya manages to make it big with their coconut ice-cream phenomenon. Already a hit when they first started out in Jalan Alor back in 2014, the secret of their success lies on the freshly-concocted ice cream made with real coconut ingredient, instead of artificial flavour often found for such dessert. Unlike other ice cream outlets that offer variety of flavours, Sangkaya focuses primarily on all things coconut. They also sell coconut drink, but it was their premium coconut ice cream that matters the most. At the top of their must-have list is the Signature version. Served in a small, yet cute-looking coconut husk, you’ll get four scoops of coconut ice cream. Best of all, you can add toppings of your choice – e.g. sweet corn, kidney beans and corn flakes – for free. Upon the first scoop of the coconut ice cream, you’ll find the taste is just as refreshingly pleasant as a fresh coconut juice found at the roadside stall. Then there’s the flesh strips found at the bottom of the coconut husk once you finish off the ice cream, which adds as a nice little touch to end your dessert with utmost satisfaction.
