It’s fragrant, it’s greasy, it’s scrumptious and it’s oily. That’s a plate of Char Kuey Teow (fried flat noodles) for you. A comfort food that is well-loved by both locals and tourists. Not forgetting, it’s also one of Penang’s most famous street food. The ingredients are pretty standard: it’s either chicken or duck egg, flat noodles, soy sauce, bean sprouts, chives, cockles and prawns. But what makes Penang char kuey teow such a beloved favourite is the way the dish being stir-fried in a wok over a high heat.     Unlike the usual dry version of Penang’s char kuey teow, Sg. Dua Char Koay Teow at Butterworth offers an alternative “wet” variation. For the uninitiated, the “wet” version refers to the gravy-based char kuey teow. The key here is the gravy that marries the whole dish together with spicy and savoury flavours. In fact, even with the normal serving, they are never skimp with the prawns and cockles. However, many do order the special version to multiply the amount of seafood goodness on the plate. Best enjoyed with pickled chillies. 

    Tips

    Their “Telur Ayam Di Basuh” tagline is actually referring to the chicken eggs being washed before the cooking begins.
