Best Asam Laksa in Penang

Written by Updated ago

Sweet, sour and spicy – those are the three magic words best described for fulfiling a satisfying bowl of Penang asam laksa. With a smorgasbord of slurpy white rice noodles, shredded fish (typically mackerel), sliced pineapples, cucumber, onions, red chillis, lettuce, mint leaves steeped within the tamarind-flavoured soup base, what’s not to like about this all-time Malaysian favourite?

    Taman Emas Kopitiam

Located at the corner shop of Jalan Gottlieb, there’s a stall that serves good asam laksa. Here, the laksa is flavoursome with plenty of rich ingredients such as sardines, mackerels, vegetables and pineapple bits. The thick broth itself is worth every slurp till the last drop. Make sure you top up your order with a plate of deep-fried popiah. Instead of eating it on its own, soak the popiah into the laksa broth. Once it becomes cushy, dig in and enjoy!
    Tips

The stall is located just opposite the Penang Chinese Girls’ High School.

The coffeeshop is usually crowded during the weekends.
